Below are the most common questions we get. If you cant find what your looking for, just ask.
Every piece we build is one of one, so pricing varies based on size, materials, and design complexity.
If you have a project in mind, the best place to start is with a general budget range. That allows us to guide the design, materials, and details in a way that makes sense for you — without wasting time on something that doesn’t align.
That’s completely normal — most people don’t at first.
What helps is having a general expectation of where our work falls. Most projects begin around $2,000+, with many landing in the $3,500 – $7,000 range depending on the piece.
If you’re unsure, we can help guide you.
If you’re looking for something quick or low-cost, we may not be the right fit. But if you’re after something intentional — built to last and built to stand out — we’re happy to help shape it.
No. After our initial consultation, we will determine together whether this is a good fit. Do you think The Backstage Builder is the right company to build your project? Do we think you are the right customer who will appreciate our work? We turn down projects that do not meet our design aesthetics or align with our brand. For example, we specialize in fine furniture. A walnut media console with high-end finishes would be a proper fit, but a bunk bed for little Timmy's room, maybe not.
Other reasons we may not take on your project: material availability, complexity, space limitations, timeline conflicts, logistics, etc..
We focus on stand alone furniture and artwork.
Built-in cabinetry and furniture permanently installed in your space is evaluated on a case by case basis. Here are a few others:
These require specialized tools and setups that don’t align with our workflow.
Chair design is highly subjective and time-intensive. While we don’t build dining chairs, we can recommend retailers with options that complement your custom table.
We focus on fine furniture and do not build custom kitchen cabinets. Specialists in this area can better meet your needs.
No. Retailers like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and West Elm mass-produce furniture at scales we can’t match. If you’ve found what you’re looking for there, we recommend purchasing directly from them.
We estimate a 12-16 week average lead time. Here’s why:
Projects are completed on a first-come, first-served basis, so there may be others ahead of you.
Lead times for raw materials, special tools, and hardware can impact the schedule.
We don’t rush the build .
The final finish could require adequate curing before handling.
We stand behind our craftsmanship. The Backstage Builder offers a 1-year limited workmanship warranty from the date of delivery. This warranty covers structural defects resulting from craftsmanship under normal use. Because solid wood is a natural material, minor movement, seasonal expansion or contraction, and natural variations in grain are not considered defects. Damage caused by improper care, environmental conditions, misuse, or normal wear and tear is not covered.
Proper care is essential to maintain your furniture’s beauty and durability: Keep your piece in the space it was designed for to avoid warping or cracking. Avoid standing or climbing on furniture not designed for that purpose. Use trivets or coasters to prevent heat, steam, or moisture damage. You will receive instructions on what products to clean your furniture and keep it looking fresh.
Yes. A 50% deposit is required to secure your place in line on our project board. The deposit is non-refundable once materials have been purchased. The remaining balance is due at delivery.
